Crypt - Ludum Dare 57
Ludum Dare is one of the biggest and longest-running game jam events in the world. For Ludum Dare 57, I participated in the COMPO category — a 48 hour solo-development challenge where participants must make everything in their game from scratch (apart from the game engine).
I created a procedurally-generated cave exploration game whose gameplay focused on moving carefully into the unknown depths below. The player has three tools available to them:
A pickaxe, which can be used to break tiles, collect resources, or attack enemies
Ropes, which allow the player to safely descend or ascend
Glowsticks, which can be thrown to reveal the cave’s layout through the oppressive darkness
I made a short devlog that showcases my process of developing the game. My aim was to make the video interesting to a casual viewer, but also include enough details so that someone interested in game development might learn something new.
The game placed 66th overall out of 363 COMPO entries.
You can play the game in your browser here, and read comments from the jam here.
